With the encouragement of friends and peers in the industry, she applied last year. “It was a high-level opportunity to learn and develop myself, ” she said. She is the first OKCMAR leader to participate in NAR Leadership Academy.
The 10-month leadership experience consists of 12 sessions, four of which are in-person. The group of 18 met for the first session in Washington DC in January. Titled How NAR Leads Real Estate from Washington, D.C., the session included presentations in legislative advocacy, federal policy, fair housing policy and economy.
It is not every day REALTORS® find themselves in the NAR Board Room, or being presented the economy update by Lawrence Yun in such an exclusive setting.
Many aspects of her experience were intriguing; and one other unique NAR perk caught her attention.
“The NAR Library offers so many useful resources!” Karpe said.
