March 5, 2018

With just two months of government activities being completed, OKCMAR is already off to a great start. Thanks to the reappointment of Glen Cosper as Government Affairs Chair and Jared Kennedy as RPAC Chair, the ground work for this year was already underway before 2018 started.

To kick off the year, the two committees held a joint emergency meeting to interview candidates in the race for Oklahoma City Mayor and Oklahoma City School Board. The two candidates selected to receive RPAC funds were David Holt for Mayor and Ruth Veales for School Board. They both won easily on February 13th, Holt winning with 78% of the vote and Veales winning with 59%. Besides donating to the candidates, OKCMAR implemented an email campaign to remind members to vote in the February 13th election.

The OKCMAR leadership also took time to attend REALTOR® Day at the Capitol. Members helped lobby legislators and socialize with them at the ice cream reception.

The next day the two committees held their first regularly scheduled meeting of the year. They adopted the 2018 calendar of activities and created a task force to look at affordable housing issues in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area.

A few weeks later, they held the first RPAC event of the year, the Annual Chili Cookoff.

The event raised over $4,000 and those in attendance had some great chili. The winning chili for the second time in a row was made by RPAC Chair, Jared Kennedy.  The 2017 RPAC Major Investors Wall was also revealed at the event. Watch the big moment!

The next big event is the annual Major Investor reception, which will be held on March 20th at the Jones Assembly. See related story for details!
Bottom line: We are on target for a great year.
