The June 28th election provided OKCMAR with great news, starting with the passage of the Oklahoma County Jail bond that received 59% of the vote. “That is a huge win,” stated OKCMAR Government Affairs Director Glen Cosper. “When you consider that the problems with the current jail have been going on for years and we now have a plan to move forward.  It was a good election result.”

The bond will replace the overcrowded, outdated, poorly designed jail without raising taxes. The projected result is a safer and more efficient jail that reflects our values, helping those who can be diverted from incarceration be more productive members of our community.

OKCMAR received an Issues Mobilization Grant that funded a campaign supporting the bond that included digital ads and a calling program seeking support for the bond. This is the fourth and latest successful local bond that we have actively supported. REALTORS ® and their political resources are playing an active role in helping to improve the quality of life by engaging in these major initiatives.

“They are having a major impact improving the quality of life in our neighborhoods and communities,” stated OKCMAR Government Affairs Vice Chair Jessica Thompson. “Our advocacy efforts also help spur housing development.”
