At the August membership luncheon, Becky Karpe asked all of the members in the room to write down their words of wisdom for new members. The result was a collection of valuable advice we could all keep in mind!

 

  • Get your GRI NOW!!
  • Realize that all the great agents you deal with will not all be ethical and professional
  • Do open house! One of the best ways to pick up clients. Follow Up!!
  • When negotiating the goal is to get to a common ground, not be “right”. Remember, it’s what the clients want not the realtors.
  • Contact & Secure a CPA right away
  • When in doubt, don’t lie. Just say, “I’m not sure but I’ll find out for you.”
  • If you keep your eyes on helping the person and doing the right thing instead of the money you will succeed!
  • Learn your craft
  • Get involved
  • Do more than is required
  • Go above & beyond
  • Be all in & dedicated
  • Earn designations
  • Get involved in all aspects of the business.
  • Everyone is a potential client
  • Don’t give up!

  • This is NOT EASY! If that’s your impression its going to be a Bumpy Road. Take it seriously. Be kind to everyone. Lead with Grace
  • PDF Scanner Apps, check fraud. Some apps aren’t secure enough to send an earnest money check via app/email. Avoid using PDF scanner Apps to send copies of earnest money checks.
  • Learning just begins. Learn and Learn some more. There’s never too much training.
  • Do not lie if you do not know! Tell them, you’ll get back to them! Its important to be honest <3
  • Shadow a REALTOR at the following: Go to: Listing presentation, Inspections, Closings, Etc.
  • Make yourself a cheat sheet on every paragraph of the contract. Know how to explain the contract to your buyer/seller
  • Respect your fellow REALTORS- client relationships are important but so are your Realtor relationships.
  • You are representing the entire industry when you are out in the field
  • Courtesy when another Realtor happens to be showing a property. Do not walk into the property with your buyer.
  • Get involved in all you can!
  • Don’t waste the time and money you just invested in getting your license by now not doing anything. Get Busy!
  • Make sure you choose a broker that gives good training.
  • Find a great mentor and take as much training as offered!

  • Sage Advice: When brand new to real estate, immerse
    yourself in the business. You will learn a lot just by being present.
  • Ask questions- if your broker isn’t helping you
    and answering your questions – find a brokerage that does, it makes a world of
    difference!

  • Find an agent/broker who is willing to take the time to invest their knowledge and experience. Don’t just interview your broker, talk to other REALTORS – they will become your family.

  • Always be honest and professional with others and learn and follow the golden rule.
  • Journal every day, you will have some crazy transactions. Get all the CE you can

  • Find a charity that speaks to you and use that as an outlet for when work is difficult, and you will receive joy!
  • Wake up everyday knowing you have an opportunity to change someone’s life and let it feed your fire!
  • Title company, please provide buyers information, sellers information, marital status and social security number
  • Over communicate!! Have bullet proof systems in place. The details matter!
  • Make sure every transaction is a Win/Win for all parties. Do the right thing <3
  • Don’t get so caught up in the “new” technology and apps, that you miss out on learning the process.
  • Know and follow the rules
  • Don’t take things personally
  • Keep working even when it seems not be working
  • Please don’t take the emotions and your client personally. Pull yourself from their drama. You are an outside party to the transactions! But most of all, have a ball!
  • Start a list of contacts from the very beginning and follow-up regularly. This can end up being a great source of business.
  • Attend all training
  • Complete Post License Immediately
  • Go to the Office as much as possible
  • Learn how to write ALL contracts first
  • Gather your friends list
  • Become very familiar with contracts
  • Get a Mentor!!
  • The customs and practices of day to day real estate are as important as the rules
  • Your fellow Realtors – try to think as colleagues instead of competitors
  • Have 1 year of monthly budget in savings account
  • You cannot do real estate part time
  • Get active
  • Get 24 hours CE before 2 years and 11 months
  • Work your network! Don’t pay for leads.
  • Remember you goal is to work for your client. Its not about you…. Its about them and their goals.
  • Save 30% of your checks for taxes. Pay quarterly taxes
  • Memorize the contract – read, re-read and recite

  • In whatever you do BE Consistent!
  • Read the contract – know what it says
  • Get involved in your professional association

  • Practice Real Estate transactions so that it’s a “win-win” for both sides of the sale. Don’t be adversarial in your practice.
